Willow Guard - PC Release
Willow Guard is a hybrid between an action rpg and interactive, choice-based fiction that immerses players in the world of Tersa, where the Gods have abandoned the animals they once uplifted. You play as Ghweros, a Willowguard investigating a slew of horrifying monster attacks plaguing a distant northern village, close to the Hinterlands that surround the few remaining bastions of civilization.
The game combines strategic depth, visceral combat, and a masterfully crafted narrative to deliver an unforgettable experience for RPG and action enthusiasts alike. It takes the ethos of quality over quantity seriously: expect a tight, branching story that will take between 10-20 hours to fully experience. Outside of combat, players will interact with a diverse cast of characters, uncover clues, and explore new locations in an engaging, choice-driven narrative. Combat in Willow Guard blends retro-inspired hack n’ slash mechanics with a customizable action deck system. Unique features include:

-
Light deck-building elements: each ability is represented by a card, and you need to decide what cards to bring with you before each encounter. Sometimes your equipment can also give you access to unique abilities!
-
Rogue-like combat: there is no saving during combat encounters, each dungeon has to be completed in a single go. Randomized layouts, action deck draws, enemy spawns and loot locations and instantaneous retries guarantee a frustration-free experience of ‘just one more try’.
-
There is no traditional level-based progression system; instead you improve by crafting new cards as well as finding and upgrading your equipment (and by getting better at the game!)
-
Light metroidvainia inspirations: levels can contain shortcuts, secrets and treasures that are unlocked using more advanced abilities that are only available when you return later.
-
Gather clues and items in the story mode, and use and combine them to unlock new locations, characters, lore and further the story. Reading is obligatory to find the best endings!
-
The world lives and changes as you play - new characters appear, new options open up, and opportunities are lost as the days pass. To experience everything in Willow Guard requires several replays!
Willow Guard combines two distinct but overlapping visual styles: the combat gameplay uses a lush pixel-art style that allows for quick, visceral combat encounters with over ten distinct enemy types to fight using dozens of abilities, spells and of course your Willowguard blade. The story gameplay, in contrast, uses a beautiful hand-drawn art style that brings the world of Tersa and its colourful characters to life.
